A Truly Happy Birthday

Ok, so I’m just coming off of celebrating my birthday and I am so thankful to see another day. Birthdays have a funny way of teaching you lessons and making you reflect back on yourself. What you’ve done, what you haven’t done, where you thought you would be at this age in your life, and yada-yada. This birthday was quite memorable and I want to share with you my experience on my happy BIRTHDAY.

The connections that the universe makes for us are not connections that we should take for granted. For the past few years, whenever my birthday rolls around, I always incorporate some “me time.” It is time that I make for myself to relax, unwind, and treat myself to something that is well deserved. Its my time to celebrate me, with me. I started off my “me day” with a massage, and met this fantastic masseuse, Jeff the Sicilian. Now at the time of first meeting him, I didn’t know him to know whether he would be fantastic, but almost immediately I saw a glow about him, and there was a good feeling that existed. As he began to give me my massage, he noticed my OM tattoo on the back of my lower neck, and we hit it off from there. He joked, we laughed, we reflected, it was amazing. I never laughed so hard during a massage session and it was unusual, yet very happy. To me, I felt a connection to Jeff  because he was so much like me. We had similar feelings about the world and what this life is really about and it was refreshing to meet someone like me.      When my birthday comes around, all I can think about is what am I going to do for myself? I’m so appreciative for the life that I have and the many blessings that have been afforded to me.  Jeff was a reminder of that. Looking back on it now, I don’t even really remember the massage, but I remember the connection that was made with Jeff the Sicilian. That experience reminded me that my birthday wasn’t just about having a spa day, and doing something for me, which I still believe is very important, yet the experience was so much deeper than that. It was about appreciating life. Here I am laying on this massage table, practically naked, with a stranger rubbing my muscles, and I’m thinking about Life and how it’s so much more than this man rubbing my muscles. In that moment, I was happy. I shared with him my birthday wish, which was to continue to be happy. Continue to be happy…because life should be about being happy MOST of the time, if not ALL of the time. Getting a massage doesn’t necessarily make me happy, it may make me feel good physically, but being in that room, and cracking up at all the jokes Jeff had, reminded me that the state of being happy and laughing, makes me happy and continues to keep my happiness going. That’s the essence of a Happy Birthday. Thank you so much Jeff! 🙂

  1. What an amazing compliment! I am so happy that I was able to have an influence on your special day. I do apologize for not making it more relaxing and for making you laugh instead. I would have loved the massage to be more memorable, but I do love your blog comments. If you ever get another massage from me, I will be sure to tone the humor down and kick the relaxation up a notch.
